Scaffolding in London
Twincliff puts up scaffolding in London as well as across Essex. We are a Southend-on-Sea firm, run by a family that has scaffolded for 40 years, and part of London is already on our patch: Upminster and Rainham, in the London Borough of Havering, have their own page. For anywhere else in London, ring 07923 802786 with the postcode and the job, and we will tell you straight whether we can do your date. The person who surveys your job prices it; our own crew erects it.
London jobs, from a scaffolder's side
A lot of London's housing is Victorian and Edwardian terraces, with inter-war semis further out. A terrace usually means the front lift stands on the pavement and the rear has no side access, so the tubes, boards and fittings for the rear lift go down a shared path with the neighbour's agreement, through the house on boards, or up and over from the front. Which one is decided at the survey, before we price, not on the morning.
On a semi or a terrace, a standard on the neighbour's side of the party line needs their agreement, and we ask you to arrange it. If they refuse, we design the scaffold so it stays on your side.
The licence: the borough, or Transport for London
Scaffolding on the pavement needs a licence from the highway authority. In London that is the borough council for most roads, the City of London Corporation in the Square Mile, and Transport for London on red routes. We tell you at the survey which one applies and advise on the application, so the scaffold goes up on the date you planned. Where the lorry or the footprint needs a parking bay suspended, we tell you that at the survey too.
What we put up in London
The same scaffolds we put up in Essex, surveyed and priced the same way:
- Loft conversion scaffolding: front and rear lifts, adapted as the dormer goes on, a tin hat if the weather says so.
- Roofing scaffolding: full perimeter, chimney stacks, temporary roofs and edge protection.
- Extension and new build scaffolding: extensions, refurbs, and new build sites, small and large.
- Painting and rendering scaffolding: full elevations at working height.
- Domestic scaffolding, if your builder has told you to sort the scaffold.
Every scaffold is inspected before handover, after every adaptation, and at least every seven days while it stands, as the Work at Height Regulations require, and at handover we issue you a handover certificate. See all areas for the Essex towns we cover.
FAQs
Do you cover all of London?
Ring us with the postcode. Havering is on our doorstep. For the rest of London we look at the job and the date, and tell you straight at the first call whether we can do it, rather than take the job and send someone else.
Who sorts the scaffold licence in London?
The licence comes from the highway authority: the borough for most roads, Transport for London on red routes. We tell you at the survey which one applies and advise on the application, so the scaffold is not held up waiting for it.
Is the process different from your Essex jobs?
No. One person surveys the job and prices it, our own crew puts it up, and the number you ring when the plan changes is the same one.
