Scaffold inspection tag on a galvanised tube

MOD Approved Contractor

Draft copy for client confirmation. The wording on this page is not final. The page is hidden from search engines until Twincliff confirms it.

The team behind Twincliff has been an MOD-approved contractor for 30+ years.

Twincliff scaffolds government and Ministry of Defence buildings across Essex, working to each site's own rules for access and security. We survey the job, price it once, and put it up with our own crew, the same as every scaffold we build.

More than 30 years as an MOD-approved contractor

Twincliff Scaffolding Services Ltd is a young company. The people who run it are not new to this work. They have worked as an MOD-approved contractor for more than 30 years, long before Twincliff Scaffolding Services Ltd was formed. That sits alongside 40 years of the family scaffolding in Essex: the same people and the same standards, carried into government and defence work.

Scaffolding for government and defence sites

The work covers access scaffolding for maintenance, repair and refurbishment of buildings on government and defence estates. Roof work with edge protection, and, where the weather or the programme calls for it, a temporary roof over the building while work carries on underneath. Loading bays where materials have to reach height without being carried through the building. The scaffold types are the ones we use everywhere else, covered in more detail on roofing scaffolding and extension and new build scaffolding. What changes on a government or defence site is not the scaffold. It is how we get on site, move round it and hand it over.

Standards and compliance

Every scaffold we put up is inspected before handover, after any adaptation and at least every seven days while it stands, as the Work at Height Regulations require. The tag on the standard records it. On a government or defence site we also work to that site's own rules: inductions, permits, escorted access and whatever the site's own security arrangements require. We follow the site's process for getting our crew and materials through the gate, not ours.

Discretion

We do not name the government or defence sites, projects or clients we have worked for, which is why this page describes the work in general terms and names nobody. If you want to know about relevant experience, ask us directly. We will tell you what we can, within what the client in question allows.

Why choose us

Twincliff is family-run and based in Southend-on-Sea, with 40 years of the family in the trade. The people running it have worked as an MOD-approved contractor for more than 30 years. We use our own crew, not subcontracted labour, so the scaffolders who erect a lift are the ones who come back to adapt it. The person who surveys your job is the person who prices it, one number start to finish. Every scaffold carries the same inspection tag, dated and signed, whoever the client is. For programmes and how we work with contractors more generally, see for trade.

FAQs

Do you name the MOD sites or government buildings you have worked on?

No. Government and defence work stays confidential, so this page is deliberately generic. Relevant experience can be discussed directly.

How does the survey work on a secure site?

The same as any survey, with the site's own process added. We follow whatever induction, permit, escort or booking-in arrangements the site sets, and we plan the visit around them. Tell us what your site requires when you get in touch and we will work to it.

Who do we contact to discuss a government or defence job?

Contact us or request a survey and we will take it from there. Any detail about past work is discussed directly, not published.

Is the scaffold different from what you use on other jobs?

Not as a rule. Access scaffolding, edge protection, loading bays and temporary roofs are built the same way whatever the client. See all services for the full range. What differs on a government or defence site is the process for getting on and off it, not the scaffold itself.
