A family-run scaffolding firm in Southend-on-Sea

Twincliff Scaffolding is a family-run scaffolding firm based in Southend-on-Sea, run by a family that has scaffolded in Essex for 40 years. We scaffold for roofers, loft conversion firms, builders, renderers and small developers across Essex. One person surveys and prices the job. Our own crew erects it.

Who you are dealing with

There is no estimator who never sees the site. The number on the tag reaches our surveyor directly.

The crew that erects your scaffold is ours. We do not subcontract the erection to whoever is free that week, so what goes up is the same from one job to the next. The scaffolder who ties in the first lift is the one who comes back to add the loading bay.

What the family's 40 years looks like

Forty years of the family in this trade is long enough to have scaffolded most of what Essex housing stock can throw at a crew. Edwardian terraces in Southend and Leigh with no side access, where every tube goes through the house. Nineteen-thirties semis with hipped roofs that need a full perimeter for the roofer and a rear lift for the dormer. Bungalows in Rayleigh and Canvey where the loft conversion is the only way up. Seafront elevations that take the wind straight off the estuary and need ties the inland jobs never do.

It is also long enough to know what goes wrong. Loading bays the lorry cannot reach. Lifts at the wrong height for the trade using them. Scaffolds handed over with no tag, so the roofer has to guess. We survey to avoid the first two and tag to rule out the third.

How we work

Five stages, every time: survey, price, erect, adapt, dismantle. They are set out on the home page and in full, with the inspection rules behind them, on how it works. Three things hold across all five.

Inspection card
OK
The survey comes first.
We do not price from photos. We measure, check the ground and the ties, and place the loading bay before we give you a figure.
OK
One number.
The person who surveyed the job answers the phone for the whole of it, adaptations and strike included.
OK
The tag is our word.
A green inspection tag on the standard is our word, dated and signed, that the scaffold was inspected and found fit for use as built on that date. If it is not green, ring the number on it.

Our surveyor surveys the job, prices it, and is the person you ring when the plan changes.

Who we work for

Most of our work is for other firms: roofing companies, loft conversion specialists, building contractors on extensions and refurbs, decorators and renderers, and small developers on sites of up to about 15 houses. If that is you, the trade page explains how we fit round your programme.

Homeowners come to us because their builder told them to sort the scaffold. We survey it with the builder so the lifts are where the trade needs them.
